What It Can Do
It easily powers drills, grinders, skill saws, table saws, sawzalls, and portable cement mixers for example. The Yamaha is "rated" at 16.7 amps with "rated" surge capability to 20 amps. Very useful when trying to start electric motors such as a freezer compressor or an A/C unit. You can run many different appliances, lights, TV's, computers but depending upon the wattage requirement not all at the same time. To find out the power requirements of appliances see load tester for details.
What It Cant Do
Start heavy draw motors such as some air compressors, large refrigerators and air conditioners may be not be able to run with a small 2000 watt power generator. If you need more power you can hook up two EF2000IS units for added output giving a total output of 4000 watts and 3200 watts continuous power, a better choice than buying the Yamaha EF3000IS and a much better choice than a full blown contractor generator.
So How Quiet Is Quiet?
In our review the most talked about feature that everyone liked was how quiet the Yamaha 2000 is. A "quiet generator" can be somewhat misleading so here is what quiet really is.A normal conversation is rated at 60 Db, a decibel rating used to measure sound levels. At full power the Yamaha F200IS runs about 69 Db if you were right beside it, loud but not objectionable. From ten feet about 60Db which is quiet and very tolerable.
In Ecocno mode (low power draw) standing beside the generator produces about 60 db, very quiet, from 10 ft away it produces a soft low hum, your ears will thank you and so will everyone else If you are a camping enthusiast and visit state or national parks the ef2oois generator meets noise compliance standards. The loudness will fluctuate between these levels, depending upon the load, the generator adjusts the RPM accordingly.
In addition to running appliances, tools and lights the EF2000iS is also able to recharge batteries with an 8 amp 12V DC output, making it ideal for RV, auto, and boat owners. The Yamaha EF200IS includes 12 volt cables for connection to the 12v socket, the Honda Eu does not include cables. The starter cord is really easy to pull and the unit starts usually on the first or second pull

Yamaha EF2000IS Product Features
* 2,000 Watt Maximum AC Output/1,600 Watt Rated AC Output * Super-quiet muffler with USFS-approved Spark Arrestor * Smart Throttle varies engine speed based on load * Inverter system with Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) control * CARB Compliant * Two-year warranty. * 44 Lbs
Yamaha Vs Honda
1. All controls are on one side on an integrated simple control panel including the starter pull. Honda controls are scattered on both sides. Much easier operation in confined spaces. 2. Has a very visible fuel gauge. Not supplied on the Honda 3. Has a carb fuel shut-off which allows you run the fuel system dry for storage. No such system on the Honda 4. The carb bowl has a drain screw and drain tube to remove all remaining fuel-if any. No easy carb drain on Honda. 5. Unit weighs over 50 lbs with a full fuel tank and oil but lighter than a Honda and every pound is important when carrying this weight. 6. Overall service and maintenance is very easy. 7. Low pollution total operating hours are twice the Honda 8. Larger carry handle. 9. Very quiet at all speeds - extremely quiet at the eco throttle or low speeds/low loads.
What is an Inverter And Why Do I Need One?
* The big plus with an inverter generator is the ability to power down adding to much longer service life. * Much more fuel efficient * Can operate electronics or appliances with microprocessors without damaging the electronics.
Generators produce a power curve that is not the same as Ac from your household current. Generators without inverters produce a power output that is not a perfect sine wave referred to as being "dirty". For most applications this isn't a problem. But you run the risk of permanently damaging anything with a microprocessor. .
The Yamaha's inverter technology takes the raw power produced by the generator and uses a special microprocessor to condition it. The AC power is converted to DC and then converted back to AC by the inverter. The inverter produces a perfect sine wave. You can power computers, TV's, laptops or any appliance or tool without having to worry about the damage caused by unrefined energy. The inverter allows the generator to run at much lower RPM depending upon the load.
Economical Running Most generators run at a consistent 3600 RPM which are noisy and produce full wattage output no matter what the load, not very fuel efficient. Because of the Yamaha EF299IS inverter technology the engine runs on demand producing only enough power to run anything that is hooked up to the generator. With price of gas going nowhere but up this a HUGE benefit The Yamaha Ef2000Is is able to run for up to 10.5 hours on a tank ( about 1 gallon) without refueling when in Economy mode, about 6 hours at full tilt.
Ergonomic, User-Friendly Design
We really like the centralized control panel that allows easy access to all of the generator's functions. Starts up responsively due to its auto-decompression system, which reduces compression and makes start-up less difficult. No exercise machine here. Many users were very impressed with the ease of operation.
Yamaha EF2000IS Review Summary
The most impressive thing about this unit is how quiet it is. Even at full engine speed you can stand about 6 feet away and have a normal conversation without raising your voice, or talk on a cell phone without undue distraction. One reviewer said "I have had no less than 10 neighbors this season come by and comment on how awesome this thing is. Our next door neighbor came over and said he couldn't believe that a thing this quiet could produce 2000 watts! I love showing it off and i know it beats other generators in the same category, hands down. The only bad thing is the price, there is a bit of sticker shock but let me tell you, its worth every penny!"(See more on price below)
There are no quality issues to report, all the reviews we have read all praise the quietness, the easy starting, the quality, performance, lightweight and easy storage on board or off.
There was only one issue although no one felt that it was important enough that they would have purchased a different model. The unit is shipped without engine oil so that you have to purchase oil for the generator, that's it, of all the things that could have been found wrong on a lot of inverter generators this was the only complaint! The second concern wasn't operational but price.
Sticky Price
The Yamaha EF2000IS isn't cheap at about $1000. One of the reasons is that inverters are expensive, take away the inverter and the price difference would be substantial., but you lose all the advantages of the inverter generator. If you use your generator a lot the savings alone in gas would soon pay for itself.Secondly building the Yamaha inverter generator is more labour intensive, especially soundproofing the unit.
The saying that you get what you pay for can have negative notions but in this case it couldn't be more true. There are cheaper knockoffs at around $500 but you wont be happy with them and none can compare to the quality or benefits of the Yamaha generator. Those cheaper models are only as good as the servive or parts available for them. In our opinion the Yamaha EF2000IS represents a top buy, the best price we found was at Amazon that includes free shipping, highly recommended..
